Description
We definitely wondered which way the storm clouds were going during our visit to the Sao Jorge Castle in Lisbon Portugal! Turns out the other way so that were able to enjoy the day! Sao Jorge Castle is a Moorish castle occupying a commanding hilltop overlooking the historic centre of the Portuguese city of Lisbon and Tagus River which leads (not much past the bridge) into the Atlantic Ocean. The strongly fortified citadel dates from medieval period of Portuguese history, and is one of the main tourist sites of Lisbon. Today, the castle consists mostly of walls. The view, however, is worth the price of admission and you can spend a long time relaxing and just enjoying it! The cityscape below is the Baixa or lower town. The bridge in the distance is the 25th of April Bridge, named for the Carnation Revolution where a Portuguese dictatorship and the war in the Portuguese colonies ended.
