Description
This is a companion to the Walt Disney Concert Hall images I posted earlier, titled "An Evening with Gustavo - Walt Disney Concert Hall Architecture Los Angeles" and "Walt Disney Concert Hall - Los Angeles California". This image is more abstract and shows a close-up of the walls of the amazing architecture.
A large print of this image would be great wall art for your home, office or business.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall is a Los Angeles icon in downtown LA and is the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. It has a dual personality, with a dreamy look on the outside with huge silvery panels that reflect sunlight and blue sky color. On the inside the color is golden.
The Disney Concert Hall opened pompously in 2003, with the outside curvy walls showing a symphony of peaks and valleys made of highly polished stainless steel. Many admired the light reflected by the concave surfaces. This didn't last very long, though, as many residents in neighboring condominiums complained about the glare because the sunlight reflected by the concave panels was highly concentrated, causing the condos to be unbearably warm and the air-conditioning costs to skyrocket. It also caused hot spots on nearby sidewalks with temperatures of well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius). Due to many complaints from neighborhood residents, architect Frank Gehry identified the specific concave panels causing the problem and dulled their surfaces by sanding the panels, thereby eliminating the undue glare. Nevertheless, the Disney Concert Hall stands tall as a beautiful example of modern architecture. The curvy walls alone are stunning and offer lovely abstract compositions, as in this photo. I was attracted to this particular composition by the forms, colors and light. The reflected light can be different depending on the time of day and the perspective, varying from silvery as in this photo to slightly bluish due to reflected blue sky color, as in one of my earlier photos.
